Research

Working under the theme of "creating new environments through the integration and utilization of media," we solve a wide range of problems in VR, augmented reality, HCI, and robotics, and apply our research to a variety of fields.

XR

To provide a foundation for skill-acquisition support and EduMetaverse applications using XR (AR/VR/MR) technologies, we measure and recognize environments and objects, and research information-presentation techniques using HMDs.

Human-Computer Interaction

We conduct cross-disciplinary research spanning advanced information-media technologies (such as 3D user interfaces, XR systems, and haptics), interaction/experience design methodologies, and human-centered understanding for creating new forms of interaction.

Robotics

We conduct research on robotics and robot learning that leverages multimodal information such as vision and haptic/force sensing.

Computer Vision

To help build media environments, we research the measurement of the shape and material of environments and objects, and the reproduction and imitation of light behavior.

Educational Technology & Information Education

Educational technology explores optimal teaching methods using engineering approaches. For example, we develop systems to support teaching and learning, and research learning analytics — how to gather information from teachers and learners via ICT, and how to analyze and feed it back so that learning and teaching are improved. We also research approachable lessons and teaching materials for information-science education, from elementary school through the first year of university.
